PROGRAM DESCRIPTION


DAY 1. TRANSFER TO RASNOV (ROSENAU):

- meet your local guide at Henri Coanda International Airport Bucharest;

- transfer to Rasnov (Rosenau) – former Saxon medieval town from Transylvania;

- the local guide will present the tour (currency, timezone, schedule for the coming days etc) and will introduce you to some of the general facts about Romania;

- drive through Prahova Valley and then across the scenic Carpathian mountains, before arrival at Rasnov;

- check-in at guesthouse in Rasnov;

DAY 2. RASNOV FORTRESS, PELES CASTLE AND BRAN CASTLE:

- after breakfast, you will visit the XIII century fortress from Rasnov; from the top of the citadel you have a perfect view of the surrounding area with Bucegi mountain range, Piatra Craiului mountain range and the valley which leads to Bran castle;

- the day continues with a drive to Sinaia for a visit at Peles castle, former summer residence of Carol I - the first king of Romania;

- after the visit, stop over at Sinaia Monastery for photos and local guide explanations on its history;

- the final part of the day is dedicated to visiting Dracula`s castle in Bran;

- visit of the castle which used to be also the medieval borderline between Transylvania and Wallachia, followed by free time for souvenir shopping;

- return to Rasnov;

DAY 3. BRASOV (KRONSTADT) AND THE FORTIFIED CHURCHES OF PREJMER AND HARMAN:

- breakfast;

- short drive to Brasov for a tour of the former border Saxon town, one of the wealthiest cities of medieval Transylvania;

- the pedestrian tour of downtown Brasov will include the major sights of the city: Saint Nicholas Orthodox Church, First Romanian School (visit inside), the Black Church (visit inside) – biggest Gothic cathedral between Vienna and Istanbul – the Council Square, Rope street (one of the narrowest streets of Europe), the Jewish temple, Catherine gate;

- free time after tour for shopping or coffee break on Republicii Boulevard;

- drive to Prejmer and Harman for visits of the fortified Saxon churches in these two villages, part of UNESCO World Heritage;

- return to Rasnov;

- free time for the rest of the day or optional dinner at restaurant in Poiana Brasov – one of the fanciest mountain resorts in Romania;

DAY 4. BIERTAN LUTHERAN CHURCH AND SIGHISOARA (SCHASSBURG):

- after breakfast, drive to Biertan fortified church – UNESCO World Heritage XV century monument - considered to be one of the most important Lutheran churches in Transylvania; for more than 300 years it stood as the head church of the Transylvanian Lutherans;

- drive further into the heart of Transylvania, towards Sighisoara, a well preserved medieval towns in central eastern Europe;

pedestrian tour of Sighisoara with the following highlights included on the tour: The Catholic Cathedral, the History Museum from the famous Clock Tower (visit inside), the Church of the Monastery, House of Vlad Dracul (supposedly the house where Vlad the Impaler was born), the Square of the Fortress, the School's Staircase and the Church on the Hill;

- return in the evening at Rasnov;

DAY 5. SIBIU (HERMANNSTADT):

- after breakfast, drive to Sibiu, another Saxon medieval town, named Hermannstadt by the locals;

- in 2007 Sibiu was given the title of European Capital of Culture; on this occasion, the entire historical centre of the city was restored;

 - the pedestrian tour of Sibiu will give you the chance to see all the major sights of the city: the Orthodox Cathedral, Brukenthal Museum (visit inside), the Evangelical Church (visit inside), the XIII century Council Tower, Liars Bridge, The Big and The Lesser Square;

- after free time in the main square, return in the evening at Rasnov;

DAY 6. LAST DAY, TRANSFER TO THE AIRPORT:

 - morning departure after breakfast to `Henri Coanda` International Airport from Bucharest;

 - END OF SERVICES OR OPTIONAL BUCHAREST EXTENSION:

- transfer from Rasnov, stop-over for lunch in Bucharest and check-in at 4* hotel in Bucharest;

- in the afternoon, visit of Bucharest Village Museum with local guide

DAY 7. OPTIONAL TWO-DAY EXTENSION IN BUCHAREST:

- after the breakfast, meeting with the local guide in the lobby of the hotel and departure for the Bucharest city tour;

- you will have the opportunity to see important sights such as: the Arch of Triumph, Charles de Gaulle Square, Free Press Square, Victory Square, Victory Avenue, Revolution Square (stop-over for photos and local guide explanations), Cismigiu Garden, Opera House, Cotroceni Palace, Military Academy, Elefterie Churches, Dambovita River, The Palace of the Parlament (stop-over for photos), Union Boulevard, Patriarchal Church (stop-over for photos and local guide explanations), Union Square, University Square, Roman Square etc;

- scheduled visit to The Palace of the Parliament, the second largest public building in the world;

- free time for souvenir shopping followed by return to the hotel;

- in the evening, transfer to restaurant in central Bucharest for a farewell dinner;

DAY 8. TRANSFER TO THE AIRPORT:

- breakfast at the hotel;

 - transfer to `Henri Coanda` International Airport from Bucharest;

- END OF SERVICES
